Charite Artificial Disc

The FDA has granted approval for use of the Charite Artificial Disc as an alternative to spinal fusion.

Congratulations and thank you to all the Panorama Staff involved in this exciting research study!! The Spine Surgeons at Panorama Orthopedics were part of the Charite (formerly called Link) study when it began about four years ago. We continue to follow a number of the patients with these discs implanted.

This is the first artificial disc to be approved by the FDA. It is specifically approved for use in patients with back pain due to degenerative disc disease at one level from L4 to S1. The FDA has recommended a stringent training program for all surgeons wishing to begin implanting the artificial disc. The Spine Surgeons at Panorama Orthopedics have completed this training while participating in the clinical trial of the disc and are available to evaluate potential candidates.

If you think you may be a candidate for an artificial disc, please call our office to schedule an appointment with one of our spine surgeons. Remember: NOT EVERYONE is a candidate for disc replacements!
