Mary Geder (Hip Replacement)

YES! I did finish the Portland Marathon on Sunday Oct 10. Walking, walking, walking, a lot of walking. The 1st 4 hours in a steady heavy drizzle didn't help. But the sun came out, we all dried out and it was actually beautiful. Kept on walking, walking . Finished in something over 9 hours. Found a really good buddy for the last 5 miles, that helped a lot. Had only 1 large heel blister that probably wouldn't have been there if it hadn't rained. Really had no problems except one knee somewhat stiff at the finish. Could barely move the next day but by Tuesday was doing fine.
So for about 36 hours after the walk I thought... I would never consider doing this again. Now, a week later, I'm thinking hmmm maybe I would do this again... I'm thinking I could get closer to 8 hours.
Hope springs eternal !
Got a new L hip from Dr Mills in November 2004. I guess you could say it's holding up well and the hip replacement surgery was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Thanks you Dr Mills, all staff and the physical therapists.
