Heather Pupavac, NP
Heather Pupavac grew up in Long Beach, California and Centennial, Colorado and then spent 15 years living in Washington, D.C. She attended undergraduate school at the University of Colorado at Boulder (BA Economics) and then law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law (MA Natural Resources and Environmental Law Studies). Then she decided to pursue a medical career and attended Chamberlain University to receive her BS in Nursing, and MS in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
After changing careers from business into nursing, Heather wanted to be a flight nurse. She worked in the Emergency Department and ICU to gain the necessary experience to fly, but because it is so competitive, she decided to go back to school for her NP in case flying didn’t work out. She ended up graduating NP school at the same time she received a flight offer, and decided ultimately to pursue her NP degree. Once she found surgery as an NP, she never looked back. Today she loves working in surgery and can’t imagine doing anything else.
Heather’s medical background is in trauma and acute care surgery with University of Maryland. It was there that she trained with a really strong trauma team. She enjoys the team approach and collaborating with others. After working in trauma, she wanted to specialize and really become an expert in a more narrow surgical specialty. Because she already saw and managed a lot of orthopedic injuries, she decided to specialize in orthopedic trauma.
When she’s not working, Heather loves surfing, SCUBA diving, skiing, yoga, animal rescue, travel adventures near and far, and spending time with family and friends.
